There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
